Cleaner, Affordable Energy is on the Way

The facility will provide much-needed natural gas to Long Island, Greater New York, and Connecticut.

Broadwater will create jobs, benefit the region's economy, and provide a bridge to a renewable energy future.

The average household is estimated to save about $300 per year in energy costs.

The region will save approximately $680 million per year in natural gas and electricity costs.

FERC Approves Broadwater Project

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) unanimously approved construction and operation of the Broadwater LNG Project, subject to the conditions reflected in the authorization. Key conclusions include:

  • Broadwater can meet the projected energy needs for New York City, Long Island, and Connecticut
  • Broadwater can provide the service safely, securely, and with limited environmental impact
  • Long Island Sound always has been a multi-use waterway and there is no reason to conclude that approval of Broadwater would result in "industrialization"

FERC is made up of four Commissioners and a Chairman who are nominated by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate. No more than three of the Commissioners may be from the same party.
